From the estate of a former model who was fast friends with Galanos and had most of her pieces from him made specifically for her so each is a rare and wonderful creation! I absolutely love the drama and high couture feel of this particular dress. If I had to bet I would guess that this dress was specifically asked to be constructed as a more modern version of his 1959 "Theatre Dress" photoed for Vogue (pictured). That same feel is there. A yard of material was used on the sleeves on the 1959 version and I would hazard that this is true of this one as well! They are an elaborate construction with a stiffening material worked in betweent he layers so that they retain that amazing shape! The body is entirely boas cut and the front a simple sheath that molds itself around the body underneath. The back is gathered along either side of the zipper and continues down the back seam to just under the butt so you get a molded and sexy feel. The skirt trains out from there and is longer on the back then the front. The silk and silk organza used are very light so it feel like wearing air once on. Supermodel length. It's amazing and in excellent , museum quality condition.
Fully lined in a black silk organza. The inside seams are ribbon edge finished. Each sleeve has a stiffening inside and each has a padding. Hand finished and closes with a back painted zipper.
