The Aster's name derives from the Greek word for star and it resembles one with its yellow center and ray-like petals. Part of the sunflower family, asters may be blue, pink, white, yellow, or purple. Long a symbol of elegance, patience, and love, the purple aster also symbolizes wisdom and nobility. 

These post earrings feature one large flower and two small flowers with petals of pale purple cast glass and 24k gold centers among hand patinaed bronze leaves.

This unique jewelry is made by creating molds directly from botanical elements in a process similar to lost-wax casting. Michael uses an actual leaf, branch or flower instead of a wax model. A mold is formed around the botanical element and during the heating process the plant matter is burned away leaving behind a detailed image of itself. Soft patinas are then used on cast bronze and further accented with pearls , beads, corals, glass or stones.
